2019 Caldecott Winners (and the Possum says Goodnight)

Congratulations to Sophie Blackall for winning her second Caldecott Medal, this time for the wonderful Hello Lighthouse! (I predicted it in my review!)

And congratulations to the artists chosen for the Caldecott Honor, including Juana Martinez-Neal (Alma and How She Got Her Name), Grace Lin (A Big Mooncake for Little Star), Brian Lies (The Rough Patch) and Oge Mora (Thank You, Omu!).

So…this is my first post here in about five months. I took a ‘short break’ that turned into a long absence and although I still love picture books, some of my other interests and hobbies have taken over the time I used to spend on this blog. So I am officially putting the Possum’s Bookshelf on official hiatus for the time being, after six years and 1,136 books. I may be back occasionally, but have no plans to post regularly again.

I’ve had a wonderful time, read a lot of incredible books, learned a heck of a lot and met some really amazing people as a result of this blog. Many thanks to those of you who read or commented or shared or contributed in any way. If there are kids in your life, read to them! If not, read to yourself! The books are always going to be there waiting and you never know when you’ve picked up the book that will change your whole life.
