It’s time for another theme month and I’m pleased to announce that our next theme is The Royals. Throughout May, I’ll be reviewing books about kings, queens, princes and princesses. There are a wide variety of stories about royalty out there, from the ridiculous to the sublime, and I’m hoping to cover the whole spectrum. Royal families show up often in traditional fairy tales and you’ll find lots of them in contemporary stories, as well.
Princesses have become somewhat of a taboo subject in modern parenting, as though the very mention of them to your daughter will undermine everything you’ve tried to teach her and turn her, instantly, into a vapid, helpless girl. Friends and regular readers know me well enough to know that I don’t really subscribe to the idea of taboo subjects. And those who know my daughters know that their childhoods were full of princesses, especially the (gasp) Disney princesses…and yet they grew up strong, independent, motivated, confident and genuine.
We’ve got a bunch of royals of all types lined up for you in the upcoming month (as well as an awesome custom banner) and I hope you meet one or two who make your life a little richer.
